Fall protection waistcoats and fall arrest waistcoats are for fall protection according to EN 361 and are used to catch a potential fall when working on roofs, in the construction industry or when working from mobile elevated work platforms.
Safety harnesses have at least one front and / or rear fall arrest point as a minimum requirement for fall protection harnesses, marked with the letter A for the fall arrest point. The points themselves can be made of metal, which is particularly the case with the dorsal fall arrest point, the sternal fall arrest point can also be made of metal, but there are also versions with two textile loops ( A/2 ) in the chest area that are widespread.
The position of the fall arrest points in the event of a fall allows for favourable fall loading along the body axis for the human body and ensures upright hanging after the fall. Variants with lateral positioning points according to EN 358 are available as well as high-visibility vests according to standard EN471.
The advantage of the safety harness lies in the simplicity of its use, particularly for people who do not deal with personal protective equipment against falls from a height every day. The easy handling of the vest increases the user's acceptance of wearing the PPE, furthermore a safety harness increases hanging comfort in many cases after a fall.
Fall protection harnesses according to EN 361 must be checked at least once a year by a qualified person.
