Rappelling brake

A Rappelling brake is a belaying or descending device that uses friction to prevent or cushion a fall or to achieve a working position on the rope. The braking effect varies depending on the type and mode of operation. Depending on the use, a distinction is made between devices for sport climbing or professional rope access. In the commercial sector, standardised abseil brakes with panic function or automatic blocking mechanism are used, as well as in height rescue or in the field of rope climbing techniques in trees. Rappel brakes are also used for handling loads, such as lowering branches or trunk parts.
