CE conformity mark
By affixing this mark, the manufacturer confirms on his own responsibility that a product complies with all the relevant regulations of the European Union. It is to be understood like the technical passport of the product and is considered as a basic requirement for a sale within the European Economic Area. The CE conformity mark thus indicates that a product complies with the required directives and is officially certified. The number after the CE conformity mark indicates the certification body.
EN 892
Dynamic rope
Rope which, as a link in the belay chain, is capable of arresting the fall of a climber or mountaineer at a limited maximum impact force.
Single rope
Dynamic part of the belay chain capable of arresting the fall of a lead climber in the single strand.
Half rope
Dynamic part of the belay chain that, when used in pairs, can arrest the fall of the lead climber. Persons in the second ascent may be belayed with one half-rope.
Twin rope
A dynamic part of the belay chain which, when used in pairs and in parallel, can arrest the fall of the person in front.
-
The following markings are mandatory for the manufacturer to affix to the product:
- Manufacturer/trade name
- year of manufacture
- length specification
- Type of rope/diameter
- Graphic symbol for (single rope, half rope or twin rope)
- CE marking with 4-digit identification number
UIAA
This mark indicates that a product meets the requirements of the UIAA (International Union of Alpine Associations). It is a special mark for mountaineering products.
The purpose of this standard is to ensure that the equipment can fulfil its task according to the requirements and withstand the stresses that occur in the process. UIAA standards are closely based on EU standards (CE or EN or CEN respectively), but sometimes deviate slightly from them. The UIAA standards correspond to the EN standards in their basic requirements, but in contrast to the EN they are not binding.
EN 564
Rope cord
Pieces of cord or rope, consisting of core and sheath with a nominal diameter of 4 mm to 8 mm, which serve to absorb force and not energy.
-
The following markings are mandatory for the manufacturer to include on the drum or standard packaging:
- Word "Rope cord" and EN 564.
- Name of the manufacturer
- nominal diameter of the cord
- breaking load
- Number of pieces (if offered on drum and consisting of several pieces)
- year of manufacture
- CE-marking with 4-digit identification number
EN 1891 type A
Low elongation kernmantle rope
A rope used for personal safety. The core is generally the essential load-bearing element and usually consists of parallel elements drawn together and twisted in single or multiple layers, or braided elements.
Type A
Low stretch kernmantle ropes are used in the following activities for personal safety: rope assisted work including all types of workplace positioning and restraint. Also for rescue and also in caving.
-
The following markings are obligatory for the manufacturer to affix to the product:
- Reference to instructions for use
- Permanent marking on both outer ends of the rope
- A for shape A rope
- B for form B rope
- EN 1891 + year of issue
- Internal marking over the entire length (at least every 1000mm) with the following information:
- Manufacturer
- EN 1891 + year of issue and rope form A or B
- Year of manufacture
- Material specifications of the core-sheath rope
- CE marking with 4-digit identification number
EAC
With the EAC marking, the manufacturer, distributor or authorized representative declares that the product, which is placed on the market for the first time in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, complies with the applicable safety requirements specified in the Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union. If the conformity test is successful, then the products must be marked with the EAC conformity mark. EAC is an abbreviation for Eurasian Conformity. It is similar in content to the European CE mark.
ANSI
ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute - an organization that develops various standards for the American market. The ANSI standard regulates the requirements for connecting components for personal fall protection systems.
NFPA
NFPA stands for National Fire Protection Association and is a US standard for fire protection. NFPA publishes a comprehensive set of fire protection regulations (National Fire Codes) that are mainly used in the USA.
