Fall arrest harnesses are used to catch a potential fall during work on roofs, in construction, or when working from aerial work platforms.
These harnesses have at least one chest-side and/or back-side fall arrest attachment point according to EN361. This meets the minimum requirements for fall arrest harnesses.
According to the standard, they have at least one back or chest fall arrest attachment point, marked with the letter A as the attachment point. The attachment points themselves can be made of metal, particularly in the case of the back-side (dorsal) attachment point. The front (sternal) attachment point can also be made of metal, but there are also versions with two textile loops (A/2) in the chest area that are widely used.
The positioning of the attachment points allows for a favorable distribution of fall forces along the body axis in the event of a fall and ensures an upright suspension after the fall is caught. For this reason, seat belts for fall arrest are not allowed.
Systems designed as vests are helpful for easier donning of the harness.
Fall arrest harnesses according to EN 361 must be inspected by a competent person at least once a year.
