Helmets
In this category you will find protective helmets for the following areas: fall protection, personal fall protection equipment (also known as PPE), workplace positioning, rope access techniques, rope climbing techniques, rigging, and height rescue.
If an uncontrolled fall cannot be ruled out, a mountaineering helmet according to EN 12492 must be used. If an uncontrolled fall can be ruled out, an industrial safety helmet according to EN 397 is used. Therefore, two types of helmets would need to be available for different areas of application. To partially avoid this, there are helmets that meet both standards (EN 397 + EN 12492).
The type of helmet to be used ultimately depends on the respective risk assessment.
Below you will find further information on the helmet types we offer:
An industrial safety helmet according to EN 397 protects the user from falling objects. It also provides protection against:
- Impact with objects
- Pendulum impact
- Toppling objects
- Flying objects
It is not designed to provide protection in the event of a fall. However, in rope access techniques, an industrial safety helmet can be used as a redundant safety measure to prevent falls. In industrial safety helmets, the chin strap releases with a tensile force of at least 15 daN (kg) and a maximum of 25 daN (kg) to avoid possible strangulation of the wearer.
When personal fall protection equipment must be worn for certain tasks, it is recommended to use special industrial safety helmets for work at heights. These are protective helmets that have been certified according to EN 397 "Industrial Safety Helmets" and have also been tested for lateral shock absorption according to EN 12492 "Mountaineering Helmets".
When working at heights where a fall cannot be completely ruled out, mountaineering helmets according to EN 12492 must be used. Tree climbers or tree care professionals typically use these "mountain sports helmets" according to EN 12492. They are equipped with a chin strap connected to the helmet shell at 4 points. The buckle only opens with a stronger force of at least 50 daN (kg), ensuring that the "mountain sports helmet" remains securely on the wearer's head in the event of a fall and continues to provide effective protection. Lateral impact protection or shock absorption is particularly important here, as it comes into play, especially in pendulum falls. EN 12492 requires lateral shock absorption, which is not explicitly required by EN 397.
When working at heights or performing rope access and positioning techniques, helmets according to EN 12492 with chin straps and lateral impact protection must be used. In order to meet additional workplace requirements regarding temperature resistance and/or electrical insulation, the helmets should also comply with the EN 397 standard. This is also necessary when there is a risk of the helmet slipping off due to the lifting of the fall arrest attachment during the fall arrest process.
Helmets according to EN 50365 provide electrical insulation and can be used for work on or near live parts up to alternating voltage 1000 V (AC) or direct voltage 1500 V (DC). When used with other electrically insulating personal protective equipment, they prevent dangerous current flow through the head. Protective helmets according to EN 50365 are allowed to have ventilation openings under certain conditions. Protective helmets according to EN 50365 also meet the basic requirements of EN 397.

Protection against splashes of molten metal | Dynamo 397, Dynamo Hybrid,Vertex, Vertex Vent, Strato |
Protection against lateral deformation | Dynamo 397, Hard Hat, Vertex, Vertex Vent, Strato, Strato Vent |
Very low temperatures (up to -40°C) | Dynamo 397, Dynamo Hybrid |
Chin strap releases at 15 daN up to max. 25 daN (1) | Vertik, Dynamo 397, Combi Work, Combi Work Visier, Vertex, Vertex Vent, Strato, Strato Vent |
Chin strap releases from min. 50 daN (1) | Hard Hat, Vertex, Vertex Vent, Strato, Strato Vent |
(1) The Petzl helmets (Vertex, Vertex Vent, Strato, Strato Vent) have a DUAL chin strap. This allows the user to adjust the chin strap's holding force to adapt the helmet to different work situations: work at heights (EN 12492) and work on the ground (EN 397).
